Organic Fellowship is NOT Emergent!
One of the many misconceptions about the mass exodus from the institutional churches of today to localized home fellowships is this; that somehow this is part of the Emergent Church movement. This is a loaded claim, and I would like to clarify some things right now.
The blog writer is very aware of false teachers like Brian Mclaren, Rob Bell, and others who take a “deconstructionist” view toward the scriptures. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I take a LITERAL view when it comes to my approach to the scriptures. The bible says what it means. Until I am given a biblical reason as to not take a passage of scripture literally, then I DON’T EVEN CONSIDER IT. When two scriptures seem to contradict one another (Because the bible DOES NOT contradict itself) the need for further study is necessary. The emergent folks are questioning the very truths the scripture contains, even making it subjective and relative to the needs of the people. Instead of the scripture being the objective word of God which IS truth and can be rightly divided and counted as reliable, the emergent movement would say that truth is “relative” to the experience of the reader – post-modern poison.
While there are indeed translation issues, all one has to do is look at the original language definitions to solve any discrepancies in scripture. (knowing the Koine Greek or Hebrew languages is NOT necessary to do this) Even when that fails we have the HOLY SPIRIT who will lead us into all truth in due time.
The emergent church and it’s relative view to truth in the scriptures is a legitimate threat to biblical truth. I would venture to say that it is part of the many reasons why people are coming out of the IC. We want to uphold the truth our Lord has brought us, not deconstruct it.
It seems as if biblical truth has become just as “relative” to many in the IC. Leaders in the IC love to point out the error in the emergents, and other false Antichrist movements, but they do not realize that in many ways they are committing the same crimes. They have skewed and deconstructed the truth of God’s word to satisfy their traditions which may very well be hindering the body of Christ.
So again I say: ORGANIC FELLOWSHIP IS NOT EMERGENT!
